Creating a more interesting class just got easier!

Adding premium content to your Canvas course – Nice! Adding premium content while paying nothing? Awesome! Adding free premium content to your course from a simple search without ever leaving Canvas? Tremendously excellent! Use the D’Youville Library’s new Curriculum Builder tool to take advantage of all the library has to offer and forge a course full of high quality material like research articles, ebooks and video.

The Curriculum Builder allows you to create annotated resource lists containing links to both library and web items. It searches across the library collection to find material from databases in a variety of disciplines and format types. Just enter a search and select items from the results, add some of your own notes to each item, name the list and save. You have just created a handy resource guide for your students that will save them time and money. It will also save you from having to worry about copyright or whether that link will be active tomorrow when you assign it to your class.

Students benefit by having direct access to the required resources within your course. Not having to search around for the article will make it more likely they will read the material you have selected. Your students also won’t be distracted by all the attention grabbing cat videos because the material opens up right in Canvas. It even bypasses library logins making opening documents uneventful and minimizes the possible excuses for not viewing your thoughtful choices.

Curriculum Builder is activated as a learning technologies interoperability (LTI) tool making it easy to insert into your classes without having to know what the LTI protocol does. Instructions for setting up the curriculum builder are attached below for those of you interested in DIY.

If you find the instructions are in the TLDR category, don’t worry the library is here to help! Contact Ted Sherman at shermant@dyc.edu for assistance or wait until this fall when our new Online Learning Librarian starts and can work with you on this product and much more!
