Library Access After Graduation

Are you graduating soon? It is time to figure out which library resources you will still have access to after graduation. The library provides thousands of resources to the D’Youville University community. Upon graduation, you will lose access to all of the online databases the library provides to you as a student. Many online resources are not freely available, so the library spends a high percentage of our budget per year to provide access to online resources for the college community and sadly, these benefits do not extend to student once they have graduated.

A great option for New York State residents is the New York City Public Library System. The NYC Public Library membership is free to residents and opens a whole new world of access to you. The library catalog has thousands of e-book titles and movies streaming through Kanopy. The NYC Public Library even grants access to the educational site Lynda. https://www.nypl.org/

Don’t forget about the Buffalo and Erie County library. While their collection isn’t as large, they have many of the same resources as the New York Public Library. This is a great option if you are staying local and need to do some research or find something to read. They have an Interlibrary Loan service, and its free to use. Order books, dvds and other materials not found in their collections. Sign up for a library card and start using their services.

Both of the libraries above have ebooks that you can instantly download. Use the Libby app to manage and read your ebooks. Download and read from anywhere. This app will even play audiobooks. It is as easy to use as reading a book.

If you currently using RefWorks for your citation management through D’Youville, try Zotero. Zotero is a free open-source citation manager with many of the same functions as RefWorks. Some features Zotero offers are: web-browser integration, online syncing, integration with word processors including Microsoft Word and Google Docs, as well as generation of footnotes, in-text citations, and bibliographies. https://www.zotero.org/
